Karate Thank You's and wind-up

Last night was Olivia's Karate wind up for the season. We had an awesome BBQ, and the students who had tested earlier in the week found out their results. After the belt presentations Shihan (Livi's teacher) gave out some special awards for Best Spirit, Most Improved, and the student with the highest test scores over the season. We were so proud of Livi for winning the Most Improved Jr. trophy!!!

I made some cards to give to Livi's Shihan and Sempai's. I colored with my Copics for the first time on this cute image of the Karate girl. I had a lot of fun and I was pretty happy with how the cards turned out. The colored bands on the right side of the card represent the colors of Karate belts.

Here is the Thank You card I made

This is a close up of my coloring...not to shabby for a first timer ;)

I got PUBLISHED {again}

I was thrilled to get the email from Jackie at Canadian Scrapbooker that they had chosen one of my layouts to go in the Summer 2011 issue of the magazine! Of course I replied right away accepting their offer. I love Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine, it is my favorite, and I am so happy they chose my layout.

My layout has the prestigious "First Time Published" mark beside it because this is actually my first time being published in the magazine. My previous layout published by the CS gals was in their Basics Series Vol 5. so it didn't count.

This layout is one of my Dad, and fit in to the magazines 70's theme because I told about my Dad's old car, his 1971 MGB. I love the main photo of him with the top down, a t-shirt and a touque...I don't think you can get much more Canadian than that! And who ever though my Dad was so cool?!?!?

Here is my layout, check it out on pg 27

Copic Certification Sneek Peek

A few weeks ago I was fortunate to attend a Copic Certification workshop in Kelowna instructed by Sherrie Siemens. I had never used Copic markers before, and I was a bit overwhelmed by the other ladies in the class who already had years of experience but I learned so much and had so much fun, I could have attended the class for days rather than hours. I have ordered a bunch of markers and I am anxiously waiting for them to arrive so I can get coloring! Here is a little peek at some of the coloring I did in my workshop...

Copic Certification

I am so excited! This weekend I am going to be attending a Copic Certification workshop in Kelowna taught by Sherrie Siemens. Check out her blog Card Creme
I haven't really had any experience with Copic Markers yet but I am so excited to learn. Check back here to see what I have learned as I start to put the techniques into practice.
The work I see other crafters do is so beautiful I can't wait to try my hand at it. I never thought that in my 30's I'd be learning how to colour again! I hope i'm able to stay inside the lines :)

I have a good reason...

Ok, so I know it has been a rediculously long time since I posted anything, but REALLY, I have a good reason. I had a baby in February, and prior to that I was an exhausted pregnant lady who slept when I wasn't at work. Now that I am home with the baby I fully intend to do a better job at keeping up this blog. I have a very need baby boy though, so sometimes it is going to be difficult. I think though, if I write this here, then I will feel more pressure to stick to it. I would like to have at least 1 blog post per week! There I said it! Now, I have to stick to it.
Anyways, here is why I have been so busy lately...it's not a post about scrapbooking or cards, but at least it is a post, and a photo, and a CUTE photo at that!

Here is my boy...Sullivan James Litz
born February 3, 2011 8lbs 2oz and 20.5inches
This is Sullivan with his big sister Olivia.
She is 8 and so proud of her little brother.

Teacher Survival Kit

I have made this survival kit for my dd's teacher this year.

I bought an empty paint can from my local Home Depot to hold the kit.

The list reads:

Animal cookies for when your classroom seems like a zoo.

Band-Aids for when things get a little rough.

Chewing Gum to help you stick to it.

Crayons to colour your day bright and cheerful.

Candle for when you are up late marking or planning

Smarties because that’s who your teaching

Time Out bar because you’ll probably need it by the end of the day

Eraser to remind you everyone makes mistakes.

Lifesavers for when you've had one of those days.

Marbles to replace the ones you've lost.

Paperclips to hold it all together. Pencil to "write your wrongs."

Rubber band to remind you to be flexible.

Shiny Penny to remind you that each will shine in his or her own special way.

Starburst to give you a "burst" of energy when you need it.

Tissues to wipe away the tears...yours and theirs.

Toothpicks to help you "pick" out the good qualities in others and yourself,

and a prayer for you to say at the start of each day.

the prayer reads...

Please help me,

to strengthen their voices,

bodies and minds,

to express their feelings

and control them sometimes,

to explore what's near

and venture afar,

but most important

to love who they are.

Thanks for checking it out
